Oct. 26th: Barbarian (2022)

Barbarian (2022)
Directed by Zach Cregger

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this movie. I’ve heard a lot of people talking about it and seen it posted on facebook a fair amount. It popped up on my plex so I gave it a watch. Obviously spoilers are to follow.
Barbarian is about a woman that shows up at an Airbnb in Detroit only to find another person is there because of a double booking. She ends up staying the night and the next day she goes into the basement to find an odd room with a camera and some tunnels. She explores with the other person staying and they’re attacked by some inbred naked woman whom kills the man. Now Justin Long’s character enters as a partial owner of the home and also stumbles across the barbarian woman. The two survivors fight for their lives from the crazy woman, with only the girl surviving at the end.
Wow, I was really surprised by this movie. What an interesting plot and not having Justin Long show up until halfway through the movie was great. Bill Skarsgard plays the other tenant and he’s good, very awkward and kind of creepy. You think he’s going to be some serial killer or something and when the barbarian woman shows up it’s a crazy twist that I didn’t see coming. The main girl Tess is played by Georgina Campbell and she was really good, sympathetic but strong. Justin Long was good as well as kind of a shady jerk.
I really liked this movie. It was original, surprising and entertaining. Parts of the movie are brutal and the whole thing is really unnerving. If you have the chance to watch this, be it in theater or HBO Max, definitely check it out. I give Barbarian an A-.
