Oct. 3rd: Night of the Comet (1984)

Night of the Comet (1984)
Directed by Thom Eberhardt

The 80s had so many great horror comedies, Gremlins, Evil Dead 2, and Fright Night to name a few. Night of the Comet is one of the good ones that has a big cult following. What isn’t to love about this movie seriously?
Night of the comet is about two Valley Girls fighting against cannibal zombies and a sinister group of scientists after a strange comet flies over head. Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney play the main characters and sisters. They travel around LA trying to find other survivors to team up with. This movie could have only been made in the 80s, it is rooted so deeply in that decade. The things they say, the scenery, the music are all incredibly 80s. This movie does a great job of showing how empty the city is and giving you the feeling of loneliness, but at the same time throwing in some laughs and scares.
The special effects are pretty fun. There isn’t much in the way of gore, but the idea of a comet that turns people into orange sand is pretty crazy. The acting is pretty solid and man Catherine Mary Stewart was gorgeous back in the day, she’s still really attractive. I remember her from Weekend at Bernie’s which is also an amazing movie haha. This movie is just plan fun. Is it a movie I would suggest to everyone? No, but if you’re into 80s horror with dashes of comedy then you’ll love it.
Night of the Comet is always a good way to spend an hour and a half. The acting is solid, the story is simple but entertaining and the movie as a whole is fast paced and fun. If you haven’t watched this, then check it out, you’ll have a good time. Night of the Comet gets an A from me.
